The best and worst two weeks

Spring break was on the horizon and Dave and I had planned a getaway with kids to Tahoe for about 3 nights.  We were all very excited for some family time.  But a week before Jacob came down with a fever.  I followed and so did Thomas.   Both of my boys had an extended Spring break because of coughing and fevers.  So we hoped that by the next week it would all be gone and we could have a nice week in Tahoe.  Friday afternoon everyone was feeling a little better and the sun was shining so Matt and the girls went outside.  Matt headed off chasing/herding chickens and the girls were playing away on the swing set.  I looked out the window a few minutes later to see Matt with red stuff all over his head and him screaming.  At first I thought it was some sort of a net and ran out to discover it was blood.  Matt had angered our rooster by chasing chickens and the rooster had attacked.  We were blessed that Matt was smart enough to try to run away and all his wounds are on his head and back.  But it was pretty gruesome and though it seemed that the rooster won the cock fight, in the end he lost his head.  We won't be having a rooster for a long time.  Matt seems to have recovered well 10 days later but certainly will have physical and emotional scars.

So in a way it was a great time to head to a cold location where a stocking cap was a necessity.  It covered his scabbed head and nobody had to know.  We left Tuesday night for Tahoe, still coughing and using up a box of tissues every day.  But we woke up to snow and it was a little miracle for our crew.  So Wednesday was a day in the snow-sledding.  My husband being wise insisted on sun screen.  I am not always so concerned but he got all the kids except one but was a little hesitant to get to close to their eyes.  Needless to say all but Matt (he wasn't loving the snow) and Ari ended up with red eyes that look like they are wearing ski googles and  are now starting to peel today.
I was ready to sign myself up for Mom of the Year, as I headed for church yesterday with a scabbed head Matt and red eye kids.  And of course being Easter the children were singing a song in sacrament and Jacob even gave a talk in sacrament.  So there was no hiding our children.

All in all we had a great week in Tahoe minus some drama.  Dave was great with the bigger kids and took them skiing and swimming and on walks.  It is a great experience to take a family trip. Often our trips are family reunions and such that don't equate to lots of family time. But it was just us and it was Great!!  I hope to post some pictures later just hopefully none that will provide evidence of my great parenting skills.

Oh, I think any of us who are mothers just know that those things happen even when you are a wonderful mother, as I'm sure that you are. Glad you guys had a good time as a family. I feel the need to plan one of those for our family really soon. . .

Speedy Gonzales and the Black Stretchy Pants

Tues April 6 started as any other day. We woke up and went to a doctors appointment for the girls. That afternoon when I got home I was starving. I ate way too much and then soon got a headache that I blamed on the chocolate dessert that I ate. After resting for a while the phone rang and it was a neighbor who started off the phone call saying "I was hoping that you wouldn't answer because you would be at the hospital. I laughed at her and said no way I have at least two more weeks left. After the phone call about 6:30 Dave told me our goat had had a baby but had died so we called all the kids out and told them about it and we buried it. Then we had a late dinner and put the kids to bed. About 5 minutes later I had a contraction. I thought weird and Dave told me it was just goat sympathy pains. So as I had a few more sporadic contractions I convinced myself that it was just braxton hicks because there was no way that they were "real." I sat down and watched AI ...
